MALA GHEDIA

Director/co-writer

Mala has been telling stories since she was very young. Growing up in rural Australia to an Indian family of six children, Mala spent her time directing her siblings in little family “plays”, creating wild stories based on Hindu mythology.

Mala went on to study filmmaking at university in

Sydney before completing her acting degree at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She soon became a local in the British theatre scene, performing everywhere from the Royal Shakespeare Company to the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Mala has worked extensively in television, film, and theatre in the UK, Australia, USA, India, Switzerland, and Germany.

In 2017, Mala co-wrote and starred in the award-winning short film, NO MONSTERS IN BERLIN which won accolades in many festivals including in Cannes, New York with special screenings at the United Nations.

RICOCHET will be Mala’s film directing debut.

CHARMAINEGORMAN

Charmaine grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and has been acting professionally in theatre film and television for over 25 years. She has appeared on many Australian television shows from a young age and has worked with the Melbourne Theatre Company, the Bell Shakespeare Company and toured Australia regularly in musicals and plays.

After moving to Germany in 2009, she toured the country performing English plays for German schools and then became an ensemble member of Platypus Children’s Theatre Company, and part of the Berlin English Repertory Theatre Company (BERT).

As a writer, she has written and produced plays for the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Fringe Festival, received feature film development funding, written for Australian sketch comedy television and wrote and presented many tourism videos for the online travel guide My Guide Berlin. She was also on the board of the Down Under Berlin Film Festival for three years, helping to bring Australian and New Zealand film to Berlin every year in a 5-day film festival. Now based back in Australia, she continues to collaborate with her sister in a film production company called Baby Banksia, working on new projects and bringing women focussed stories to the screen.
